3 Reasons Why You Should Throw Out Your Jelly Sex Toys
We’re literally begging.
Jelly sex toys are cost-effective and usually feature the cutest colorways you can find. But the go-to product is not safe for sexual pleasure and you deserve to know why.
If you’re new to sex toys and don’t know where to begin, a toy made of 100 percent body-safe silicone is a great starting point. This will always be marked on the packaging of the product. They’re also easy to clean with a sex toy cleaner or warm water and soap, making product care simple.
Keep reading for three reasons why you should ditch your cheap pleasure products and graduate to body-safe silicone.
1. It will never be 100 percent clean.
Jelly toys are porous, meaning that it allows for little crevices and holes of bacteria to be stored in the sex toy over time. Everything from sexy time substances to bacteria in the air will get lodged into it. Unfortunately, no amount of sex toy cleaner, boiling or hand washing will clean it thoroughly.
2. They contain phthalates and other toxic chemicals.
All sex toys you purchase should have a note reading “phthalate-free,” as these chemicals cause several issues over time. Phthalates are quite literally considered a “probable human carcinogen,” by the FDA, banned from children’s products and even the National Library of Medicine has cosigned it as ”detrimental to the reproductive, neurological and developmental systems of humans.”
It also contains other toxic chemicals that the sex industry is not required to list. As a result, it’s best to avoid this material overall.
3. Cheap materials = a lack of longevity.
Unfortunately, jelly is a cheap material which makes it more affordable and enticing to new toy owners. But the same toxic chemicals that make it jelly-like, result in low quality and will require you to invest more time into product care — that won’t work.
Most toys can be stored at room temperature — even during a heat wave — and maintain its high quality. Jelly toys, on the other hand, are notorious for bleeding its color onto neighboring toys and frankly, smelling poorly.
