On December 9, HYPEBAE and Converse joined forces to host a virtual panel discussion as an extension of The Creative Come Up, a dynamic content series amplifying the voices, journeys and experiences of Black female creatives, and gender nonconforming people of color who are reshaping creative industries. Moderated by theorist and conceptual artist Mandy Harris-Williams, “The Creative Come Up: Graduating Class” panel enlisted three prominent creative figures who played a vital role in the series’ photographer and director Dana Scruggs, artist Aya Brown and Crystal Anderson, head of creative and co-founder of a very good job.
During the conversation, the group of gifted creatives shared valuable insights and key takeaways on how they’ve been able to excel in their chosen career path while remaining true to their core values and ethos. Between laughter, wise words and witty quips from Harris-Williams, the three pioneers of change revealed how their heritage and upbringing has played a role in shaping their identity and creative practice, ways they use their artistic medium to uplift their community and how they’re promoting a new era of creativity by redefining the status quo.
Through sharing personal testimonies and experiences that have shaped the trajectory of their career and who they are today, the panelists offered inspiration on ways the next generation of artists can enter into new spaces and pursue their career ambitions to the fullest.
