Gucci SS25 Will Make You Obsess Over ‘60s Style and Jackie Kennedy

Is “casual grandeur” the new “quiet luxury”?

Gucci’s creative director Sabato de Sarno who joined in January 2023, drew inspiration from the swinging ’60s for the brand’s Ready-To-Wear Spring/Summer 2025 season shown at Milan Fashion Week.

In the show notes, de Sarno shares how “a year later, this collection shows an accomplished journey of construction. A casual grandeur that takes shape through my obsessions — tailoring, lingerie, leather and ’60s silhouettes, all combined with the tireless exploration of the heritage of this brand and always with an irreverent attitude.” Is “casual grandeur” the new “quiet luxury”? Sabato certainly is making a convincing case.

WHERE: The show was hosted at Milan’s iconic museum of art and design, the Triennale Milano. The invite was perfectly fitting too: the Timor perpetual calendar, in Ancora red, designed by the celebrated Italian artist Enzo Mari in 1967.

WHO: The timeless heritage brand never fails to draw a star-studded front row. Returning stars included Solange and Kirsten Dunst, who were joined by Nara and Lucky Blue Smith, Olivia Dean, Gabbriette and Brenda Hashtag. Adding even more star power to the glamorous mix were renowned actors Dakota Johnson, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Nicola Coughlan.

SEE: It’s no surprise that Gucci has woven so many Jackie Kennedy-inspired motifs into its latest collection given her status as muse to the luxury house. This season, Sabato drew inspiration from her iconic accessories, especially her gloves, reimagining them as biker styles adorned with gold hardware, featuring the brand’s signature double “G” emblem at the wrist. The classic 1947 bamboo handle bag got a makeover too, with bamboo elements seen intertwined into models’ wrists and necks as accessories.

Continuing the ’60s-Jackie theme, the runway featured floral-printed headscarves paired with oversized sunglasses. For those wanting a more casual vibe, Gucci introduced a blend of summer vacation meets office-chic, showcasing suiting paired with lightweight tank tops, as well as denim styled with soft shirts. The brand also catered to evening elegance, unveiling lingerie-inspired lace slip dresses in vibrant and muted shades, alongside shimmering, silver-sequinned gowns, perfect for a night of dancing.

HEAR: A carefully curated playlist of Italian remixed house music set the tone, a quintessential Gucci tactic to reinforce its deep-rooted heritage and authenticity. In the previous Cruise 2025 show, the brand featured a vibrant remix of the Italian song “Ancora, Ancora, Ancora” by Mina, seamlessly blending modernity with cultural nostalgia.

TOUCH: A variety of textures as you can imagine — denim with soft cotton, shiny leather pieces, neat suiting-wear and tassels.

TASTE: Might there be an accessory trend on the scene? Fingerless leather biker gloves, perhaps? Either way, this is perhaps the first of many times the phrase “casual grandeur” will come up in the fashion conversation in months to come…
