Nicki Minaj’s "New Boobs" Spark Sexist Debate
“New boobs who dis?”
Rapper Nicki Minaj announces her decision to get a breast reduction as an interview resurfaces of the Queen explaining why she decided to opt for plastic surgery.
According to the Queens rapper, she felt pressured to fit a certain stereotype of what sexy is. “[Lil] Wayne was always talking about big booties and Wayne would have a new chick in the studio every session… all I would hear them talking about was big butts,” she said.
What stood out most to her was “I don’t look like that.” She continued, “I didn’t feel complete or good enough… as those girls because this is what you’re supposed to look like in the rap culture” she spoke of the standard.

In the video, interviewer Joe Budden boldly expresses that this was all in her head — to which Minaj rebutted. The video uploaded to TikTok, has since circulated on Twitter causing many to share their opinions. Some women have chosen to shame Minaj, citing it as her fault and claiming she needs to “Take responsibility.” However, beauty standards are a reality many women face daily, especially when at the forefront of major industries like rap.
Ironically, when women tap their sex appeal and use it to their advantage, they’re also targeted. In essence, can women ever f-cking win? Or are we expected to continue to internalize these standards and its messaging?
We don’t know. But in the video, she acknowledges that the dangerous procedure, which was done unprofessionally, was not worth the risk and dangerous to her health. She has since taken out her breast implants and appears ecstatic about the decision as she proudly just shared her breast reduction on Instagram: “New boobs who dis?”
