PUMA Scores Salehe Bembury To Create A New Signature Basketball Shoe
“I’m excited to leverage this collaboration as a catalyst to introduce an untold side of me.” — Salehe Bembury
Two weeks ago, Salehe Bembury shared an Instagram post, showing a selfie on the tarmac beside a private jet, holding a sign that boldly reads, “TOP SECRET PUMA IDEAS.” It turns out it wasn’t just a tease — he’s bringing his creative designs to the basketball scene with the goal of transforming PUMA Hoops.

Bembury has significantly impacted sneaker culture in recent years through multiple groundbreaking collaborations. Back in January, the 1906R New Balance dropped, featuring bold colors and tech-wear textures. The Crocs Pollex shoe combined a sneaker silhouette with his signature rubbery Pollex-style sole, while the Moncler collaboration introduced an innovative hiking boot incorporating Trailgrip GTX. These collaborations are some of the most popular and highly anticipated drops, while his groundbreaking work with Yeezy and Versace have revolutionized modern sneakers.
Though no photos of the collaboration have yet been shared, the provided press release states Bembury will “create a new look and feel within basketball itself.” This might suggest that his creative designs could impact the entirety of the PUMA Hoops line, mirroring the influence of Jerry Lorenzo‘s most recent work with Adidas basketball.
“While my work has been known to cater to the outdoor space, a space I recently developed an intimate relationship with, my partnership with PUMA Hoops will allow me to tell a more deeply rooted personal story. As a ’90s kid from New York City, I’ve played basketball my whole life and have a deep history, emotion and nostalgia for the sport. I’m excited to leverage this collaboration as a catalyst to introduce an untold side of me and engage a new community.” Bembury shares.
