Senja by Maddie's Latest Drop Injects Color Into Our Winter Wardrobes
Inspired by the vibrant Indonesian sunset – “Senja.”
If you haven’t heard of Senja by Maddie yet, you’re in for something special. This small, independent brand is all about creativity and heritage and it’s been making waves since it started during the pandemic. Maddie, the founder began by upcycling clothes for her friends, blending her love of fashion with inspiration from her Indonesian roots. The result? Gorgeous, one-of-a-kind pieces that showcase traditional dye techniques and vibrant prints.
Fast forward to now and Senja by Maddie has just dropped its Fall/Winter 2024 collection and trust us, it’s not your typical autumn fare. Instead of the usual dark, muted shades, Maddie has brought bursts of color to brighten up the shorter days. Think fiery oranges, golden yellows and rich reds, all inspired by the breathtaking sunsets of Indonesia — referred to as “Senja” in Indonesian.
Each piece is designed in-house, drawing heavily from Indonesian batik traditions. Batik is an art form in itself, using wax-resist dyeing on cotton and silk to create intricate patterns. Weaving this rich heritage into her collection, the collection is both a celebration of culture and a modern fashion statement.
Standout items include the effortlessly chic long-sleeve “Soleil” dress, cozy upcycled cardigans and versatile co-ord sets that are perfect for layering as the temperatures drop. Our favorite is the “Check” skirt, a super cute mini-skirt in pastel green, orange and pink, complete with a mint green lace hem. Made from soft, stretchy jersey material, it’s fall-ready when paired with knee-high socks and a cute jacket.
