Barbie Celebrates Diwali With Indian Designer Anita Dongre
Creating the first-ever Diwali doll just in time for the festival.
Barbie just unveiled its first-ever Diwali doll in collaboration with Indian fashion designer Anita Dongre. It’s the first time that the auspicious occasion has been commemorated by Barbie and Mattel, in a bid to continue promoting more and more celebrations of different heritage.
Celebrating the cultural richness of India and showcasing it to a global audience, the new doll aims to blend tradition and Indian culture with a contemporary space. Designed wearing a “choli” top, floral “Koti” vest and a “lehenga” skirt, the doll is dressed in patterns of dahlias, jasmine and Indian lotus, symbolizing strength and beauty. The design is complete with golden bangles and shimmering earrings.
“In celebration of Diwali, Barbie and I are both encouraging fans around the world to celebrate the beautiful heritage of Indian fashion and culture. My brand has always been driven by a mission to empower through fashion, and as the ultimate symbol of women empowerment, partnering with Barbie to create the Barbie Diwali doll couldn’t be a more perfect alignment of our values,” says Anita Dongre in a press release.
