Rejina Pyo Announces Her First-Ever Curated Exhibition
Celebrating the brand’s 10-year anniversary.
Fashion and art have always shared a symbiotic relationship, but are fashion designers now embracing art curation as a new avenue for creative expression? As a passionate painter herself, Rejina Pyo certainly is. The London-based designer just announced her first-ever curated exhibition, titled “As She Is.”
With a foundation in fine art from Hongik University in South Korea, followed by fashion studies at Central Saint Martins, Pyo has been immersed in the world of art and design since childhood, growing up under the nurturing influence of her artist mother. This showcase celebrates her brand’s 10th anniversary and features the evocative works of 19 female artists from around the world. “As She Is” delves into the complexities of womanhood and explores personal narratives that resonate through love, loss, career, motherhood, guilt and self-acceptance.
Among the exhibition’s highlights is Pyo’s installation, “Mother’s Objects.” This poignant display features furniture, art and cherished belongings collected by her mother, Bo-sung Kang throughout her life in South Korea. Each piece not only reflects Kang’s artistic journey but profoundly influences Pyo’s creative vision and aesthetic. Through this exhibition, Pyo celebrates her heritage and honors the intricate tapestry of experiences that shape women’s lives, inviting us all to reflect on our own stories.
“As She Is” is open until November 2, with more details available on Rejina Pyo’s Instagram page.
