Troye Sivan’s Creative Director Has an Exciting New Project
Not Sweat Tour-related, but it is sure to be on your next interior mood board.
Troye Sivan may be tearing up the world stage alongside Charlie XCX on the duo’s Sweat Tour, but Sivan’s creative director, Gordon von Steiner, has been making waves in his own right, too. Best known for his work across the film and photography worlds, the Canadian-British director has teamed up with the likes of Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Dior and Hermes in the past. Now, he’s soft-launching a new career, as a furniture designer.
Speaking to Hypebeast, Steiner reveals how his debut design – a minimalist armchair, created alongside Los Angeles-based House of Leon – translates his signature visual style into a piece of design. “Furniture is an exciting new territory for me,” he tells Hypebeast. “Like in filmmaking, it was about crafting each detail to shape how people connect with the final piece. It was about thinking of how each element guides the final product and evokes a feeling, only this time through design rather than a screen.”
Simply named “Chair #1”, the design combines a chrome frame, which gives it a sense of structure, and a leather backrest and seat, which adds warmth and texture. In terms of his inspiration, Steiner references the works of iconic architects like Oscar Niemeyer and Marcel Breuer. “Niemeyer’s work, particularly his architectural creations, showed how bold, clean forms could evoke a sense of drama and sophistication. That blend of minimalism with monumental impact is super inspiring to me.”
