Sage the Flame on Ethical Porn And Professional Lovemaking
From working with porn production company, Brazzers, to spotting *that* viral fake STD test, nonbinary performer Sage tells all.
When people think about sex work, they often envision an industry lacking boundaries and an abundance of faux pleasure – but in Sage the Flame’s world it’s the complete opposite. In the latest episode of Servin’ Sex, former ethical porn performer and “professional lovemaker” Sage talks us through their experience with porn performance, sharing how-to’s and spilling the tea on that viral STI test incident that sent the sex industry into a frenzy.
“99.5% of the time, I’m busting some real nuts,” says Sage. “There has definitely been porn that I’ve recorded, but we weren’t really feeling it. The vibe really wasn’t there… so, I never sold it. I’m not going to lie, I’m a bad actor, bro.”

As a nonbinary performer, Sage’s films create intimacy that mainstream visuals have yet to replicate. From “setting up the scene,” to ensuring they aren’t the “only Black person on set,” their experience spans both amateur and professional porn and offers key insight into what makes great onscreen sex.
Their work also taps into a recurring theme discussed on Servin’ Sex: a disregard for the male gaze. Inspired by the gendered orgasm gap – the phenomenon that states 95% of men always orgasm during sex while only 65% of women do – Sage’s porn is a form of activism, too.

The performer takes us behind the scenes on what makes porn “ethical,” porn categories they’ll never tap into and a more intimate aspect of their life: sex and dating. Where most believe that belonging to a risque industry casts a scarlet letter, Sage’s experience has not only benefited her personally, but within career. “I feel like it has just been made so much easier since coupling up with this man,” speaking of their then-partner. “He has lifted a weight off my chest because we shoot content together. So, I don’t have to worry about [finding male actors] anymore.”
