Sophie Wilde Talks Beauty, Heritage and Her New Partnership With LOEWE
Learn more about how the ‘Babygirl’ actress gets ready for her roles, on and off set.
From her start in the series Eden to the upcoming movie Babygirl, Sophie Wilde has made a name for herself as both a talented actress and a beauty icon. She’s known for her captivating on-screen presence, but it’s clear that her off-screen routine — rooted in self-care, perfume and simplicity — plays a major role in helping her feel empowered every day. Whether she’s getting ready for a red carpet event or unwinding after a long day, her self-care rituals are what keep her grounded and confident.
The actress recently partnered with LOEWE for a fragrance campaign that feels like a natural extension of her history with beauty. Through this collaboration with the fashion house, she’s able to share a different side of herself with the world — reminding us all that beauty, at its core, is about feeling good in your skin.
Below we speak with Wilde on how her upbringing, personal beauty influences and the power of fragrance have shaped her everyday routine.
On her biggest influences in acting
Audrey Hepburn is ultimately the reason I wanted to be an actor. I watched her in Roman Holiday when I was five or six years old and used to have a VHS boxer with all her films. I just knew that’s what I want to do. She’s always epitomized this kind of grace, beauty and class and I’ve always found her to be a very aspirational figure, so I feel like she’s one of the big ones.
On her beauty routine
I’m a simple girl because, for me and my skin, it has been a battle since puberty. For me, the simpler, the better — just the basics. I’ve always been kind of obsessed with beauty products and my grandma. She’s always been part of my inspiration — she was a glamorous woman. I remember going into a bathroom when I was a kid and looking at all her perfumes and makeup, trying them on. I felt like that’s kind of something that’s kind of been instilled in me from a young age.
On her favorite part of working with LOEWE
It’s been a dream come true in so many ways. I genuinely love LOEWE so much and it’s such a privilege to be able to work with someone like Jonathan Anderson who I genuinely believe is a genius. It feels like a privilege to be in the same orbit as him and watch him work. I have a visceral feeling when being around the whole team — they’re so amazing, so hardworking and so brilliant at their jobs. What the brand is doing in the fashion space and in the fragrance space is interesting and unique.
On her self-care rituals
I love my bed — I’m a bed girl. There’s nothing like a fresh shower and getting into bed with a hot water bottle and some tea. I also love lighting a scented candle and getting under a giant comforter.
On the influence of her Ivorian heritage
My mom is always talking to me about the Ivorian people and how important beauty is to them. There’s a cultural emphasis on taking care of your skin and having beautiful hair. I [love] watching my mom and the way that she takes care of herself so well. One of her beauty secrets was using shea butter and coconut oil, something she still swears by today. There’s no better feeling than using coconut oil — it leaves your skin incredibly soft and nourished.
On preparing for acting roles
I feel like it’s different every time. Different roles require different modes of preparation. But across the board, I’m a big playlist person. I find that music is an amazing way to get into a character, particular emotional spaces or to access different moods. I have a playlist built for all my characters.
On the beauty products she swears by
Sunscreen, because I am Australian — that’s essential. Honestly, perfume because I’ve always had an obsession with smelling nice and with things that smell nice. [That obsession] stems back to my grandma and playing around with all of her little perfumes in her bathroom — that’s such a strong memory to me.
